The Sunday worship service is the “main event” in the life of Zion. It is where we come together to celebrate the gift of God’s love and grace to us, to listen to His word and to receive strength to go out and share that love with others.
Once a month during the summer, Zion has Outdoor Worship.
When you come in the door, you will be greeted by an usher and be given a booklet/bulletin. The service is made up of prayers, music and readings called a liturgy. We have our own Worship booklet that anyone can follow along. The booklet will tell you the page number for each part of the liturgy. The hymns are printed in the Red book. The service moves back and forth from liturgy to hymns.
Each Sunday there is a children’s sermon. This takes place following the opening liturgy. Children gather in the front and the pastor gives a message specifically to them. Adults may take their very young and/or shy children to the front. After this message, the children are welcome to stay in the sanctuary or to go up to the bacony where an area is available for them to be. Bible readings (scriptures) are read by an adult member and then the Pastor proceeds with the Gospel and sermon.
Later in the service we have an opportunity to greet each other. People frequently leave their seats and move around in the sanctuary saying hello and sharing the “peace of the Lord” with each other.
An offering is collected. Members are expected to contribute to the maintenance and work of the church, as they are able. Visitors are our guests, and are not expected to contribute. However, any gifts given by visitors and friends are welcome and appreciated.
At the end of the service all are welcome to come down to the fellowship hall for informal conversation and coffee. We especially invite and enjoy visitors!
The first and third Sunday's of the month we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All baptized Christians who believe in the real presence of Christ in the Sacrament and feel the need of God’s unconditional love in their lives are welcome to come. The ushers will direct the congregation to the altar by rows. When you come to the altar you may kneel or stand if you are unable to kneel. A communion assistant will distribute the bread; the Pastor will distribute the wine or grape juice, depending on your preference. The Pastor will dismiss each “table” with a blessing.
